INCISIONS, STITCHES & SCARS

  • Donor Site: As small incisions are used for liposuction, the resulting scars are also small and barely visible.
  • Recipient Site: The fat is injected via specially designed needles, which almost don’t leave any scar back.
  • The surgeon strategically plans and places the incisions and stitches for the surgery in terms of number, size, material, location and technique aiming to keep the resulting scar minimal, hidden and not easily visible eye. Special tissue handling and suture techniques further minimize scars.

HOW IS IT PERFORMED?

Fat grafting procedure involves 3 stages

Harvesting

Fat is harvested from the typical fat rich sites such as thighs, abdomen etc., by liposuction.

Purification and Transfer

The harvested fat tissue is prepared for placement by purifying it using a centrifuge or other filtration mechanisms to remove the unwanted impurities.

Placement

A special needle is used to inject the fat into the target site. As the needle or cannula is withdrawn fat is delivered in calculated quantities along its path.

The fat grafting procedure may be repeated several times in order to achieve the desired result.

Fat can be harvested from areas like the thighs and buttocks.

Fat can then injected into the lips (pictured) and elsewhere on the face.

REST AT HOME BEFORE RESUMING OFFICE WORK
1-2 Weeks

AFTERCARE AND RECOVERY

  • One can see a significant swelling and bruising during the first week, due to this you may not able to appear at social gatherings.
  • Bruising should resolve by 2nd week, but swelling may still persist.
  • By 7th to 10th day, there should be a significant improvement in the swelling but you may still may not be able to attend social meetings. Ideally doctors advise a 2 week break from your work. If you can get only a very short leave, you may manage to return to your work after a week.
  • You should begin to look like yourself by 3rd week and will be able to appreciate the improvements.
  • A slight but unnoticeable swelling may persist for weeks.

HOW LONG WILL MY RESULTS LAST?

After the procedure one can notice an improvement in the skin texture with a refreshed, rejuvenated appearance. The grafted areas appear softer and fuller.

Survival of the grafted fat cells & longevity of the results depend on the following factors

  • Surgeon’s skills,
  • Harvesting and purification of the fat cells
  • Technique and the site of injection.

This is a very intricate procedure demanding a high degree of knowledge and skill from the surgeon for the best results.

‘Micro fat grafting’ is technique, though it involves a lot of work, it is showing the highest percentage acceptance of grafted fat.

After injection, the grafted fat cells establish new blood supply and receive nourishment.

Sometimes, few cells won’t be able to establish the new blood supply successfully and in those cases a touch up session might be necessary.
