HOW IS IT PERFORMED?

The current preferred method of laser tattoo removal uses a “Q-switched laser”. Many types of Q-switched lasers are available, the doctor chooses the right one for you and may use it alone or in combination with others after a careful evaluation.
We use a Q-switched Nd-Yag laser in our clinic,
The following steps are involved in a typical session

  1. The patient is given eye shields which are necessary to protect your eyes from the laser light.
  2. A test dose is applied to observe the skin’s response to the laser beam and also to determine the optimum energy level.
  3. The device produces the laser beam in an extremely short pulse which absorbed by the tattoo. The light pulse causes the dye to break down while causing very little damage to the surrounding tissue. The body’s immune system takes over and as a part of the healing process, the by-products from the breakdown will be removed.
  4. The number of pulses required depend upon the size of the tattoo, the smaller ones require few while the larger ones require more.
  5. For optimal results multiple sessions are required. The number of sessions required and the gap between successive sessions depend upon the nature of your tattoo and your body’s response to the treatment. With each session the tattoo becomes progressively lighter.
  6. Immediately after the treatment, an ice pack is applied to soothe the skin.
  7. To protect the site A non-occlusive dressing will be applied temporarily
  8. A sunscreen should be used after the treatment in the treated area.
  9. Laser tattoo removal requires multiple sessions for optimal results.
