ABOUT

Microdermabrasion is a skin resurfacing procedure that gently exfoliates or polishes away the top layer of dead skin cells. It is non invasive and along side this procedure aids to stimulate collagen growth. The outcome would be a healthy new skin that looks and feels smoother. With regular sessions fine lines, blemishes, dull skin and sun spots can be improved.

Cosmetic products such as moisturizers, creams and lotions are absorbed more easily and act more effectively after this procedure. This is a painless and low-risk procedure and can be added to your beauty routine.
Many people who consider microdermabrasion also consider laser skin resurfacing, chemical peel, IPL/photo rejuvenation, permanent makeup, and injectables.

HOW IS IT PERFORMED?

Generally 2 methods are used for microdermabrasion

Crystal Microdermabrasion

In this procedure the instrument is directed towards the area to be treated and crystals are emitted from it which cause a gentle abrasion or “polishing” . Later the resulting sloughed off dead skin cells and crystals are suctioned off.

Diamond-Tip Microdermabrasion

In this method instead of the crystals a diamond tipped hand piece is used for abrading the dead skin later, which is later suctioned off. Compared to using crystals this procedure offers more safety and flexibility as it can be used nearer to the sensitive areas.

To increase the effect of the procedure sometimes a light chemical peel is also advised. A moisturizer with SPF needs to be applied after treatment to provide adequate hydration and protection.

AFTER CARE AND RECOVERY

There are minimal side effects and downtime see with microdermabrasion and this is one of the advantage with the procedure.

One might experience a mild swelling and redness due to the suction and exfoliation, this can be dealt with by a moisturizer and a sunscreen.

It is recommended that you use a Sunscreen with good SPF to protect your skin from the harmful UV rays of the Sun.

As advised with most of the non-invasive procedures, avoid strenuous physical activity for 24 hours.

FOLLOW UP VISITS

Follow up not necessary. The patient can undergo the procedure when he deems it necessary.

HOW LONG WILL MY RESULTS LAST?

After the procedure you will be able to notice a health glow of your skin, this will last for days. Optimum results can be seen with repeated treatments, and thereafter maintenance sessions after the initial regimen. The number of sessions for the initial regimen may range from five to twelve with a gap of two to four weeks between each.

It is important that you note and follow the instructions given by the plastic surgeon/cosmetologist meticulously after the procedure.

You should realize that the health status across individuals varies and so does the time taken and number of sessions required for the results seen in them for the same procedure.

Maintain good communication with the aesthetic plastic surgeon

Keeping safety in mind as well as for the most beautiful outcome of the procedure, we advise that you visit the clinic for follow-up and evaluation at prescribed times. Also do not hesitate to contact the doctor if you notice any changes in the treatment areas or when you have any concerns and queries.
