HOW IS IT PERFORMED?

Dermabrasion

The procedure of dermabrasion intentionally “injures” the skin so that good scar tissue will replace bad scar tissue. This process thus reduces or eliminates skin blemishes and wrinkles. Typically, plastic surgeons use a small tool that has a rapidly spinning wheel with a roughened surface. This can be performed on a small area or the entire face as per your cosmetic goals.

Dermaplaning / Dermablading

This process is very similar to dermabrasion, but the instrument used is slightly different, it is called a ‘dermatome’ and it slightly resembles an electric razor. Compared to the ‘sand paper’ like surface seen in dermabrasion this instrument is fitted with small blades that “skim off” the top layers of the skin. This can be performed on a small area or the entire face as per your cosmetic goals.

You should be able to see the full results of the procedure within 6 weeks.

New skin begins to form in seven to ten days.

After the procedure the treated area would show some redness or a pinkish tinge, this is normal and may persist for up to a month. This can be concealed by using a camouflage cream. It will subside eventually.

Superficial treatments have very less downtime.

Deeper treatments require at least 1-2 weeks break from your office related work.

The results with these procedures will vary depending upon the length and depth of the treatment. However, you can expect the skin blemishes to be reduced or eliminated for a relatively longer time.

LIMITATIONS & RISKS

  • For people who are prone to frequent infections with Herpes simplex, this procedure may cause some issues. Our doctor may advise you some medication to prevent the fever blisters.
  • Some patients after the procedure may experience changes in the pigmentation of their skin. Our doctor can prescribe some bleaching creams to tackle this.
  • Thickening of skin can occur after the treatment with dermabrasion, this can be treated with Cortisone therapy.
