ABOUT

Also known as mastopexy and breast lift surgery

A breast lift ideal for women who experience – uneven and sagging breasts, decreased breast volume and drooping nipples and stretched areolas (the darker area surrounding the nipples). This surgery aims to lift to your breasts thus recreating a youthful shape.

In case if the breast volume is too little or too much, an additional breast augmentation or breast reduction might be recommended.

Every year, thousands of women undergo this surgery successfully with no major problems and are glad with the results.
Many women who consider a breast lift also consider breast reduction , upper body lift and mommy makeover.

INCISIONS, STITCHES & SCARS

The surgeon while aiming to keep the resulting scar minimal, hidden and not easily visible, strategically plans the incisions, suture techniques and materials to be used.

Typically incisions are placed in the following sites:

  • Around the areolas
  • Extending downward from the areolas to the breast creases
  • Horizontally along the breast creases

HOW IS IT PERFORMED?

Based on the quality of skin, its elasticity, degree of sagging, the amount of extra skin and correction required the surgeon plans the incisions. He will then remove the excess skin, and the nipple and areola are shifted to a higher position.

Aiming to support the new breast position for a longer period of time, the sutures are placed deep in the breast tissue.

The region of the nipples and the areolas will remain attached to the underlying mammary gland tissue, this kind of placement allows for the preservation of sensation and ability to breast-feed.

Incisions follow your breasts’ natural contour defining the area of excision and the new location for the nipple.

AFTER CARE AND RECOVERY

You should be able to return to your regular work routine within 7 days after the procedure, depending on the extent of the surgery.

Sleep on your back for the first 2-3 weeks to avoid undue stress on your breasts.

Removal of surgical drains and bandages: 4-5 days after surgery.

Removal of stiches will be done in stages starting from 1 week after the surgery till 3 weeks, allowing optimal healing.

Avoid any strenuous physical activity for at least 2 weeks.

Refrain from sexual activity for a minimum of one or two weeks, the plastic surgeon may advise you to wait longer depending on your case. After that, take care and be extremely gentle with your breasts for at least 1 month after the surgery.

You may notice a decrease in the sensation around the areas of nipple and areola, this is usually temporary and the normal sensation should gradually return over weeks to months.

Healing is a gradual process, it may be sometime before your breasts assume their normal shape.

Incision marks after healing will appear in red or pink, for months after the surgery.

HOW LONG WILL MY RESULTS LAST?

The results of a breast lift usually last for decades, provided that you don’t undergo significant fluctuations in weight or do not go through pregnancy.

Even if some droop occur, the newly crafted position of the nipple should remain intact.

The surgeons usually contour the entire breast tissue, and not just a skin lift for a longer-lasting result.

  1. A breast lift elevates and reshapes loose, sagging breast.
  2. After surgery, your breasts will be positioned higher and feel firmer.
